This is a big one for Mill Race Folk. We are really excited!
John Kirkpatrick is one of the most prolific figures on the English folk scene, and has established an enviable reputation as an instrumental virtuoso (melodeon, Anglo concertina and button accordion), as well as a leading interpreter of English folk music. During his long career he has played with Martin Carthy, Shirley Collins, Richard Thompson and Steeleye Span to name but a few. Support on the night comes from us lot, local trio Marisa Jack & Davy.
Tickets are only £12 and are available at The Place Theatre
Hello lovely people of Leicester. Greenbird Promotions have invited us back to play at The Musician on Clyde Street and we’re really looking forward to it. Not only is it a great little venue with a brilliant crowd, but we’re lucky enough to be supporting Ange Hardy and Lucas Drinkwater.
“The number of awards, accolades and five star reviews that Ange Hardy has acquired over the last few years is simply staggering but every single one has been entirely merited. They play an astonishing array of instruments astonishingly well and Hardy is a songwriter of rare power. Mike Harding (“the real deal”), Mark Radcliffe (“beautiful”), Fatea (“something really special”) and many more have recognised Hardy’s talent and it’s a delight to welcome her and Lucas to The Musician for the first time.”
Last seen in Leicester doing a superb set supporting Nancy Kerr, MarisaJack&Davy are among the most innovative artists on the folk scene. Their take on traditional songs are invigorating and refreshing and their playing and singing is superb.”– Greenbird Promotions
Well, I couldn’t resist popping that little nugget of praise in on the last paragraph. Thanks for the ace review, Greenbird!
Tickets are just £11 from The Musician or wegottickets
Do You Know Any Folk Songs?
The first MILL RACE FOLK SOCIAL event is at Basement at Bunyan! A new night in a new venue in Bedford town. It’s a gorgeous place that’s just been renovated. Do you know any folk songs? Floor spots are open to performers so contact us if you’d like to play.
We have been rather quiet, but behind the scenes we have been planning more events. Yes! MORE acoustic music in coming your way. Stay tuned, we have an announcement to make soon x
Our next show is on Friday 12th May 2017 at Kontra Roots Club in Earls Barton Working Men’s Club in Northants. We’ll be supporting Paul Handyside and Doughboy Three, so we’ll be in very good company. We’re expecting a busy night with a variety of music. A Kontra session is known for many genres of music within the space of a single evening: folk, blues, Americana, jazz, world, contemporary and traditional music (phew!). It starts at 8pm and only costs £3 for admission. A new adventure in our neighbouring county. We hear it’s ideal for acoustic music: characterful and friendly and they also serve real ale (“Bring Us in Good Ale!”)
We love it when the local press cover our Mill Race Folk shows. The Bedford Clanger is Bedford’s dedicated art, music and culture newspaper that is printed monthly and the Bedford Times and Citizen gave us a mention too. Thanks guys we appreciate it! Mwah! x
It’s always encouraging when the local press cover your events. Here is a little snippet from today’s Beds On Sunday. We’re on page 47, squeezed between the Roy Orbison tribute act and a small article about a classical trio who appear to be in Dr. Who cosplay garb.
Mill Race Folk is moving to The Place Theatre. We have a show with Stick in the Wheel on Saturday 28th January 2017. Tickets are available online now.
